Is it possible that there are no coincidences?

So last night I went to see the Spokane Symphony. The first piece that played was Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5 D major, Opus 107 “Reformation”. Let me give you a quote from the movie Signs.

“People break down into two groups when the experience something lucky. Group number one sees it as more than luck, more than coincidence. They see it as a sign, evidence, that there is someone up there, watching out for them. Group number two sees it as just pure luck. Just a happy turn of chance. I'm sure the people in Group number two are looking at those fourteen lights in a very suspicious way. For them, the situation isn't fifty-fifty. Could be bad, could be good. But deep down, they feel that whatever happens, they're on their own. And that fills them with fear. Yeah, there are those people. But there's a whole lot of people in the Group number one. When they see those fourteen lights, they're looking at a miracle. And deep down, they feel that whatever's going to happen, there will be someone there to help them. And that fills them with hope. See what you have to ask yourself is what kind of person are you? Are you the kind that sees signs, sees miracles? Or do you believe that people just get lucky? Or, look at the question this way: Is it possible that there are no coincidences?

I can tell you what group I am in. My blog post yesterday was called “The Reformation” and I feel like I am going through a reformation. After seeing this and listening to the piece (which reminded me of a church hymn I use to sing) I knew that this evening I was about to experience something truly amazing.

Carmina Burana

Which roughly translated to Songs from Bavaria are based on the works of Golliards (a traveling band of rogue priests and clergy members that uninhibitedly celebrated women, wine, laughter and earthly pleasures. At this point all I could think to myself was Sweeeeet… This is going to be good :)

Then it started! With one note I was transfixed into the music. I knew this of this song! Oh yes this is what Jack Wall – Composer for Myst 3 Exile - based the main theme on! I was finally fulfilling a dream of seeing in live concert a piece of music that I had wanted to see in forever. This was my first Symphony and I got to experience something that haunted the recesses of my brain for years!

Video can’t compare to the actual proformance but here is a you tube clip of Carmina Burana : O Fortuna.
