Seattle smells like wet garbage after it rains.

Today I had an interview and it went well. One question asked was why do I want to be a part of the production process (meaning why do I want to be a P.A, A.P. or producer.) I said I like being able to provide an experience to someone, something that they couldn’t have experienced with out my help. During URU days we had people emailing us on how Cyan helped them deal with cancer and so on and so forth. Tonight I came home after 12 hours on the road and started reading the Myst forums and seeing what certain people thought of the game. I have always stated that all I wanted Myst V to be is a “good game”. To my surprise people are saying “ Best game in the Series” and “best game ever” Now of course I have to take these reviews with a grain of salt, but honestly if the game provided you an experience like no other… well I am glad I can help. I secretly hope Myst V is a hit like Myst was and can allow Cyan to show to the gaming industry adventure games are not dead. Even if the industry wants to believe so.

Meanwhile… my girl friend is playing piano again and I love it. I might be taking voice lessons as a part of one of her roommate’s class at Whitworth. Personally I am pretty stoked about that. If I am still around Spokane that is…

But like it was once said “ The end (my friend) has not yet been written”

Peace.

You should be proud of Myst V. By all accounts, it's wonderful. I'm eagerly awaiting my copy.

To return to something you mentioned earlier, I think the claim that Myst V uses "recycled" content stems from the fact that there ARE assets that were shared between Uru and Myst V. Noticeably so. There are textures in this game that anyone who spent a lot of time with Uru will instantly recognize. There's even one model (the famous cot) which appeared in identical form in realMyst, Uru, and To D'Ni and again pops up in Myst V.

And there's nothing wrong with that. Plenty of great developers - even those not operating under the appreciable constraints Cyan was saddled with - have shared assets between games.

Frankly, I'm just disappointed that great design work like Urwin couldn't be worked in. I was holding out some hope for 2-Tails Monkey too...

Regardless, my hat is off to you. I have no doubt that Myst V will provide many rich and compelling hours, and for that I cannot thank you enough.

Best of luck on the employment front.

Good luck in Seattle GD, I would like to say that I have just completed the game, i was stunned, what you guys at Cyan have given us is so much fun and great to explore. As for the recycled shots well i have seen the book image of Toldemer and now i have seen the real Toldemer, Theres no doubt in my mind that what you have given us was new and incredible.

As for taking our opinions with a grain of salt, People normally burst in when i start a new Myst game most of them might play it for a while get bored of the puzzles and stop playing its been 4 days now and i'm still having to fight to keep hold of my copy.

Cyan has given us a fantastic game and i loved the ending, I wish you good luck in gettign a new job or better yet i hope Cyan gets things together and you continue to work for them if that is what you and the rest of Cyan can do.

I've not yet got my hands on a copy of it. But I'm sure it'll be great, GD. Good luck to you in finding another fun, good-hearted place to work. I do hope for your sake you find something in Spokane. Take care and don't worry, I'm telling everyone to buy Myst V that will listen to me. That's one thing I'm good at. "Talking" :)
